Capabilities and Permissions
What it can do
Search and read messages from 1:1 chats, group chats, and channels the signed-in user can access.
Create chats and channels, and send messages and replies when actions are enabled.
Work with Microsoft Planner plans and tasks.
For Enterprise users, resolve scheduled Teams meetings and retrieve transcript metadata, transcript text, and recording metadata when the signed-in user is authorized to access the meeting.
Permission requested (scope):
Note: The app requires the following scopes to be reviewed and approved by your Microsoft Entra admin. If the scopes are not approved by your Entra admin, you may see an error when trying to connect the app within ChatGPT.
Approval of scopes does not immediately make all actions available to users. Admins and owners must still review app actions in Workspace settings > Apps for the app. In Action control, admins can choose how the app's current actions are handled by allowing all actions, allowing only read actions, or selecting a custom set of actions.
If admins select Custom, they can also choose how actions added later are handled by selecting Enable all new actions, Only enable new read actions, or Disable new actions. If admins select Disable new actions, they must review and enable new actions before users can use them. After admins allow additional actions, users may need to reconnect the app to use them.
Microsoft apps permissions required
To enable integration between ChatGPT and Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint, permissions must be granted within Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) for each service.
Review and approve Microsoft permissions
For each enabled Microsoft app:
In ChatGPT, go to Admin → Apps and select Enabled.
Open the app’s overflow menu and select Manage app.
Select Microsoft permissions and review the actions and Microsoft Graph permissions shown.
Select Review permissions in Microsoft Entra, then sign in with a Microsoft Entra administrator account that can grant organization-wide consent.
Verify the organization and the ChatGPT / OpenAI, L.L.C. application, then select Accept to approve the selected request or Cancel to make no change.
Repeat this review for each enabled Microsoft app. The requested permission set can differ by app.
Microsoft permission approval is separate from workspace action settings and from an individual user’s connection. Approval does not enable actions or connect a user’s Microsoft account. If your organization does not want to approve a permission, keep every action that depends on it disabled. Some users may need to reconnect after permissions change.

Business and Enterprise/Edu owners and admins can restrict which email domains members can use to connect the Teams app to ChatGPT by limiting connected accounts to an approved set of domains.
Configure this option by selecting Manage domains for the Microsoft Teams app from Workspace settings → Apps.
Known limitations
Message results are limited to chats and channels the signed-in user can access.
Scheduled meeting artifact actions are available to Enterprise users and only for meetings the signed-in user is authorized to access.
Recording actions return recording metadata, not the recording file contents. Transcript text can be returned only when a transcript exists and the user has access.
