ChatGPT is available in Apple CarPlay on supported iPhone models running iOS 26.4 or later. Once your iPhone and the ChatGPT app are up to date, you can open ChatGPT from your CarPlay screen and start a voice conversation while you drive. ChatGPT in CarPlay is available globally on all ChatGPT plans.

Start a voice chat
Connect your iPhone to your car to start CarPlay.
In CarPlay, select ChatGPT.
Select New voice chat.
Wait for the connection to establish, and the text to go from Connecting to Listening.
Speak your prompt to begin the conversation.

In CarPlay, select ChatGPT.
Select the Projects tab.
Select the project you want to start a new chat within.
Select New voice chat.
Resume a chat
In CarPlay, select ChatGPT.
Select a pinned or recent chat you want to continue.
Speak your prompt to continue the conversation.

Can I open ChatGPT in CarPlay directly in voice mode?
Yes. ChatGPT in CarPlay opens to the Chats screen by default. You can skip this and start in voice mode directly:
Connect your iPhone to your car to start CarPlay.
In CarPlay, select ChatGPT.
On your iPhone, open the ChatGPT app, and navigate to Settings.
Under Voice, enable “Start automatically in CarPlay”.
The next time you open ChatGPT in CarPlay, it will open directly in voice mode.
Why did ChatGPT reopen when I got back in my car?
CarPlay by default reopens the last app you used when your phone reconnects. If the last app was ChatGPT, it may reopen automatically.
Why does voice quality vary by car?
Audio input and output depend on your car’s microphones, speakers, and echo cancellation. If the experience is unreliable, try again in a different car (if available) to confirm whether it is car-specific.
Are there limitations to ChatGPT in CarPlay?
ChatGPT in CarPlay supports voice conversations similar to the ChatGPT iOS app, with these limitations:
It cannot access maps, vehicle information, or live location.
