Using cloud browser in ChatGPT

Let ChatGPT complete supported web tasks in a remote browser.

Updated: 1 hour ago

ChatGPT Work is gradually rolling out to eligible accounts over the coming days. If you don't see ChatGPT Work in your account yet, your account may not have access yet. Availability will continue to expand as the rollout progresses.

Cloud browser lets ChatGPT work directly on supported public websites when a connected app cannot complete a task. It can navigate public pages, enter information in supported fields, and combine website actions with information from connected apps. ChatGPT pauses when it needs more information or confirmation.

Cloud browser is available to paid ChatGPT plans except Free and Go in supported regions. Availability may vary during rollout.

For linked teen accounts, parents or guardians can turn Cloud browser on or off in Settings > Parental controls. Workspace permissions may also affect availability. For more information, see: Parental controls in ChatGPT.

Note: At launch, cloud browser works only on public pages. It does not accept credentials, use autofill or password managers, sign in to websites, or complete payments. If a site requires one of those steps, the task stops.

Start a cloud browser task

  1. Open ChatGPT Work.

  2. Describe what you want ChatGPT to do. Include the website, item or service, relevant constraints, and desired outcome.

  3. Review any details or confirmations ChatGPT requests.

  4. Keep the task within supported public websites that do not require sign-in or payment.

  5. Review the result and its source before relying on it.

When a connected app can complete a task directly, ChatGPT may use that app instead of cloud browser. Cloud browser is used for supported tasks that require a public website.

Examples of cloud browser tasks

Cloud browser can help you:

  • Check restaurant availability.

  • Find an item in stock at a nearby store.

  • Find flights that match your dates and preferences.

  • Contact businesses for quotes through public forms.

  • Compare public product availability across supported websites.

  • Track a package using information from a connected email account and a public tracking page.

Availability depends on the website and the steps required to complete the task.

Review consequential actions

ChatGPT is designed to ask for confirmation before taking an action that may be difficult to undo or create a financial, legal, account, or other real-world commitment.

Before confirming, check:

  • The website and intended recipient

  • The item, service, date, or reservation details

  • Any price or account changes

  • The action ChatGPT is proposing to take

If a website requires an unsupported step, cloud browser is designed to stop and return the page or source for you to review.

Manage cookies

Cloud browser uses a remote browser session and may save cookies created while browsing. You can remove saved browser data from ChatGPT settings. Saved cookies do not enable authenticated browsing at launch.

Saved cookies do not allow cloud browser to sign in to websites at launch.

When a website blocks the task

If a website presents a CAPTCHA, requires sign-in, or blocks automated access, the task may stop. ChatGPT can return the page or source so you can review what happened.

Some websites may be unavailable for safety, security, or compliance reasons.

Known issues: On iOS, a task may appear paused after you approve an action. If progress does not resume, reopen the conversation or continue on web. A final browser screenshot can occasionally appear blank even when the task completed; review the linked source or result before retrying.

Use cloud browser safely

  • Use a connected app when it can complete the task directly.

  • Keep your request specific and include the outcome you want.

  • Review links, any screenshots ChatGPT provides, and confirmation details carefully.

  • Stop the task if ChatGPT opens the wrong website or works with the wrong information.

  • Do not share passwords or payment details in the chat.

FAQ

Can cloud browser continue after I leave the conversation?

Yes. Cloud browser tasks can continue in the background. The task pauses if ChatGPT needs more information or confirmation, and it stops if a website requires sign-in.

How is cloud browser different from the desktop built-in browser?

Cloud browser runs remotely and handles delegated web tasks. The built-in browser runs inside the ChatGPT desktop app, where you can follow, inspect, and annotate the page.

Can cloud browser complete every task or transaction?

No. At launch, cloud browser cannot sign in to websites or complete payments. A website may also block automated access, ChatGPT may restrict the action, or you may need to complete the final step yourself.
