Evolving Atlas into ChatGPT for browser-based agentic work

Updated: 1 hour ago

We’re deprecating Atlas and moving browser-based agentic capabilities into ChatGPT and Codex. We are building on what we learned from Atlas to support a more capable browser experience in ChatGPT, including multiple tabs, downloads, improved navigation, account login support, and other browser improvements where available.

Atlas is scheduled to stop working on August 9, 2026. Before then, export or save any important Atlas data, including bookmarks and pages you want to keep. After that date, Atlas may no longer open, browse, or support browser-based agentic workflows.

For deeper agentic browser work - try the new ChatGPT desktop app. It’s designed to support more capable browser-based agentic workflows in ChatGPT, including multiple tabs, downloads, improved navigation, account login support, and related browser improvements where available. For browser-based help in Chrome, try the ChatGPT Chrome extension or sidebar, where available. This can help you use ChatGPT alongside Chrome while you browse.

What happens to my Atlas data?

  • Bookmarks will not transfer automatically. Export your Atlas bookmarks before August 9, 2026, then import them into another browser such as Chrome.

  • Browser history may not transfer automatically. Save or bookmark pages you may need later before August 9, 2026.

  • Cookies: Atlas will provide export options where available. Do not share cookie or session files unless you trust the recipient and understand what access the files may provide.

Troubleshooting

I cannot find my exported bookmarks

Check your Downloads folder and any folder you selected during export. The exported file should be an HTML file.

My imported bookmarks are not where I expected in Chrome

Chrome may place imported bookmarks in a new imported folder or in Other bookmarks. Open Chrome bookmark manager and check those locations.

My open tabs did not transfer

Open tabs will not transfer automatically. If Atlas is still available, reopen Atlas and bookmark or copy any important URLs before August 9, 2026.

I cannot import cookies or sessions into another browser

Cookies and active sessions cannot be imported into another browser.

I cannot access the ChatGPT desktop app or Chrome extension/sidebar

Availability may depend on your plan, region, device, browser, and workspace settings. If you use ChatGPT through a workspace, ask your workspace admin whether these experiences are enabled.
