Budget Pacing

Learn how Ads Manager paces campaign spending over time with daily and campaign total budgets.

Updated: yesterday

Budget pacing helps spread your campaign’s spending over time. As ad traffic and delivery opportunities change, Ads Manager adjusts delivery to help keep budget available for opportunities later in the day or campaign.

Your spending may vary from day to day. Pacing does not guarantee equal spending or that your campaign will spend its full budget.

Daily-budget pacing

For campaigns with daily budgets, Ads Manager paces delivery throughout the day. Your daily budget represents an average daily amount over a seven-day period, so spending may be higher on some days and lower on others, within the applicable spending limits.

For details on daily budgets, spending limits, and budget changes, see Daily Budgets.

Campaign total budget pacing

For campaigns with campaign total budgets, Ads Manager uses your remaining budget and campaign schedule to guide spending over time.

If your campaign is spending ahead of pace, delivery may slow to preserve budget for later. If it is behind pace, delivery can continue so it has an opportunity to catch up. This helps reduce unexpected early budget exhaustion, though actual spending still depends on available delivery opportunities.

We recommend setting an end date to help align pacing with your intended campaign duration.

FAQs

Will my campaign total budget last until my campaign’s end date?

Not necessarily. Your end date is the latest date your campaign can deliver, but your budget may be fully spent earlier. Pacing helps manage spending over time without guaranteeing that your budget will last until the end date.

How long is the pacing period for a campaign with a campaign total budget?

For campaigns with an end date, Ads Manager uses the time until your campaign’s end date, up to a maximum pacing period of 365 calendar days. Campaigns without an end date use a default 60-day pacing period.

We recommend setting an end date to help align pacing with your intended campaign duration. These periods guide spending; they do not guarantee that your budget will last for the full period or be spent in full.

Can I use a campaign total budget without an end date?

Yes. Ads Manager uses a default pacing period for campaigns with campaign total budgets that do not have an end date. Set an end date if you want pacing to account for your intended campaign schedule.

What happens if I change my campaign total budget or end date?

Ads Manager recalculates pacing using your updated budget or schedule. Your revised campaign total budget must cover the amount already spent. Setting it equal to the amount already spent stops delivery.

Will changing my bidding strategy make my campaign spend faster?

Changing your bidding strategy does not override campaign total budget pacing. Low bids can still limit delivery and cause your campaign to spend less than its budget.
