Who is eligible for this promotion?
This promotion is exclusively for verified U.S. military veterans and retirees who transitioned from active-duty service within the past 12 months, and active service members who will transition within the next 12 months. Verification through ID.me is required. The offer can be redeemed only on an eligible personal ChatGPT account.
Am I eligible as a retiree?
Retirees who discharged from active-duty service within the last 12 months are eligible for this offer. Verification through ID.me and the other offer requirements still apply.
How do I claim the service member, veteran, or retiree offer?
Visit chatgpt.com/veterans-claim and sign in to the personal ChatGPT account that should receive the offer. Select Verify with ID.me, sign in to or create an ID.me account, complete military verification, and allow ID.me to share the result with OpenAI. If ID.me does not return a military service end date, ChatGPT will ask you to enter it. After eligibility is confirmed, select Claim offer to apply one free year of ChatGPT Plus.
You must be signed in to an eligible personal ChatGPT account and personal workspace. Accounts that belong to an Enterprise workspace cannot redeem this personal subscription offer, even from a personal workspace.
If your current Plus subscription was purchased through a mobile app store, the offer is unavailable while that subscription is active. Manage the subscription through the app store, then retry on chatgpt.com after the mobile subscription is no longer active.

Log in to ChatGPT
Visit chatgpt.com and log in with the account you'd like the offer applied to.
If you don’t have an account yet, please create one.
Start the verification process
Select Verify with ID.me.
Complete verification with ID.me
Sign in to or create your ID.me account.
Complete military verification and select Allow to share the result with OpenAI.
Finish redemption
Return to ChatGPT. If prompted, enter your military service end date.
After ChatGPT shows Eligibility confirmed, select Claim offer.
Existing eligible web Plus subscriptions receive the offer directly; other eligible accounts may continue through checkout to start Plus.
Existing web Plus users should not cancel before applying the offer. If your Plus subscription is billed through a mobile app store, manage it through that app store and retry only after it is no longer active. For verification failures, contact OpenAI Support before making repeated attempts.
What if I get an error message that I am not eligible?
You may see an eligibility error for several reasons. Current result states include:
ID.me did not confirm an eligible military subgroup (service member, veteran, or retiree)
The military service end date is outside the offer’s 365-day eligibility window
ID.me verified military status, but no military service end date was available; ChatGPT will ask you to enter it
ChatGPT could not retrieve the ID.me result; select Try again with ID.me
The ID.me identity is already linked to another ChatGPT account, or the offer was already claimed
The ChatGPT account, workspace, subscription, or billing state is not eligible

I accidentally signed up for the offer on the wrong account or email. What should I do?
An ID.me identity can be linked to only one ChatGPT account at a time. If you started verification on the wrong account, or see that your ID.me account is already linked, contact OpenAI Support before retrying. Support can investigate the original account and determine whether a verification reset is appropriate. An offer that has already been claimed cannot be transferred.
I completed ID.me verification, but ChatGPT still asks me to verify. What should I do?
Return to chatgpt.com/veterans-claim while signed in to the same personal ChatGPT account used for verification. If ChatGPT could not retrieve the result, select Try again with ID.me. If ChatGPT asks for your military service end date, enter it to continue.
If you see that your ID.me identity is linked to another ChatGPT account, contact OpenAI Support before retrying.
I’m on the checkout page and it looks like I’m going to be charged. Is the promotion working?
If you already have an eligible Plus subscription purchased on the web, ChatGPT applies the free year directly after you select Claim offer. If you do not have eligible web Plus, ChatGPT may take you to checkout to start Plus; confirm that the promotion is shown before completing checkout.
If the promotion is missing, stop and contact OpenAI Support.
I accidentally signed up for ChatGPT Plus and was charged before enrolling in this offer. Can I still get the offer?
If you were charged before claiming the offer, contact OpenAI Support with the account email and billing details. Support will review the charge and the account’s promotion state.
I want to make sure I don’t forget to cancel after the offer ends. Can I cancel now and still keep my benefits?
You may cancel at any time. Plus access may end immediately, and promotional pricing cannot be restored after cancellation.
I canceled my account right after signing up and lost access to my Plus features. Can I get them back?
As indicated on the cancellation page, when you cancel your subscription, your access to ChatGPT Plus (and any related promotions including this offer) ends. If you have cancelled your subscription, we're unable to reinstate the offer.
