Setting up ChatGPT with Apple Intelligence

Connect ChatGPT to Apple Intelligence features, customize your experience, and manage your settings anytime.

Updated: 13 hours ago

You can connect ChatGPT to Apple Intelligence features like Writing Tools and Siri by setting up the ChatGPT extension on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

You can use the integration without a ChatGPT account or connect a free or paid account. Connecting an account lets you save requests to your ChatGPT history and use the capabilities available with your plan.

Your requests, attachments you choose to share, and limited information needed to process the request are sent to ChatGPT. Your account settings and OpenAI's data privacy policies apply when you sign in. For the differences between using the integration with and without an account, see: How your data is handled through Apple's integrations.

How to set up ChatGPT with Apple Intelligence

The steps below cover version 27 and version 26 of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. The controls also depend on whether you use Siri AI (Beta). For another supported version, select that version in Apple's linked guide.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Select Siri. On iOS 26 or iPadOS 26, select Apple Intelligence & Siri.

  3. Select ChatGPT, then Set Up. If you use Siri AI, select Set Up Extensions, select ChatGPT, then turn on Use Extension.

  4. Follow the onscreen instructions and choose whether to sign in to a ChatGPT account.

On iOS 26 or iPadOS 26, select Enable ChatGPT to continue without an account, or Use ChatGPT with an Account to sign in. To save requests to your ChatGPT history, you must be signed in to an account.

If you decide to connect an account later, return to the ChatGPT extension settings and select Sign In.

For device-specific details, see Apple's guides for iPhone and iPad.

Mac

  1. Open System Settings.

  2. Select Siri. On macOS 26, select Apple Intelligence & Siri.

  3. Select ChatGPT, then Set Up. If you use Siri AI, select Set Up Extensions, select ChatGPT, then turn on Use Extension.

  4. Follow the onscreen instructions and choose whether to sign in to a ChatGPT account.

See Apple's guide to turning on ChatGPT on Mac for details.

Check your account connection

  1. Sign in to ChatGPT.

  2. Open Settings.

  3. Select Security and login.

  4. Under Login connections, select Sign in with ChatGPT.

  5. Check for Apple Intelligence in your connected apps.

If your Settings screen uses the older layout, select Security > Secure sign in with ChatGPT to check the connection.

If you don't see the ChatGPT option

Make sure your Siri language and device language are set to the same supported language. Check Apple's current device, software, language, and region requirements. The extension is available where both Apple Intelligence and ChatGPT are supported.

If you can't connect a ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace, contact your workspace administrator. Apple Intelligence integration isn't available for Enterprise or Edu workspaces with data residency enabled.

Signing in to the ChatGPT app and connecting Apple Intelligence are separate steps. If the app works but the connection fails, check that you can sign in to the intended account on the web, then retry in the device's ChatGPT extension settings. If it still fails, contact Support with the exact error, your device and OS version, and which sign-in surfaces work.

Sending requests to ChatGPT without confirming

If you use Siri AI, you can't turn off request confirmation. Explicitly ask Siri to use ChatGPT before sending a prompt, photo, or file.

If you don't use Siri AI:

  1. Open Settings on iPhone or iPad, or System Settings on Mac.

  2. Select Siri. On version 26, select Apple Intelligence & Siri.

  3. Select ChatGPT.

  4. Turn off Confirm Requests. On version 26, the setting is Confirm ChatGPT Requests.

On version 26, starting a request with “Ask ChatGPT” also skips confirmation for the request. You're still asked before photos or files are sent.

Turning off ChatGPT access

  1. Open Settings on iPhone or iPad, or System Settings on Mac.

  2. Select Siri. On version 26, select Apple Intelligence & Siri.

  3. Select ChatGPT, then turn off Use ChatGPT. If you use Siri AI, select Extensions, select ChatGPT, then turn off Use Extension.

If you also want to prevent Siri from suggesting ChatGPT, turn off Setup Prompts after disabling ChatGPT. This option isn't available with Siri AI.

Use ChatGPT with Siri

Activate Siri and ask it to use ChatGPT. For example, you can say, “Ask ChatGPT to suggest a title for my presentation.” You can also ask about an open photo or document.

For details, see Apple's guide to using Siri with ChatGPT.

Use ChatGPT with Writing Tools

After setting up the extension, you can use ChatGPT to compose, refine, and rewrite text in apps that support Writing Tools.

  1. In a text field, open Writing Tools.

  2. Select Compose.

  3. Describe what you want ChatGPT to write, then send your request.

  4. Review the result and make any changes you need.

For platform-specific controls, see Apple's Writing Tools guide. If you use Siri AI, follow the writing instructions linked from that guide.

For creating images with ChatGPT in Image Playground, see Apple's Image Playground guide.

Use ChatGPT with Visual Intelligence

On a supported iPhone without Siri AI:

  1. Open Visual Intelligence. On a model with Camera Control, press and hold Camera Control. You can also use a configured Action button, Lock Screen control, or Control Center control.

  2. Point your camera at the object you want to ask about.

  3. Select Ask to send it to ChatGPT.

  4. Type or dictate a follow-up question if needed.

For supported controls, see Apple's Visual Intelligence guide. If you use Siri AI, follow Apple's instructions for Siri mode in Camera.
