Terms for our ChatGPT Plus promotions

What terms apply to these promo codes?

OpenAI’s Terms of Service apply. By using promotional codes, you agree that they must be used for the intended audience and purpose, may not be duplicated, sold or transferred, may have additional conditions applied to them by OpenAI, are not valid for cash or other credits or points, and may expire prior to your use.

There is a limit of one code per subscriber, and we reserve the right to revoke, terminate, or cancel the promotional codes, your use of the ChatGPT service, and/or your account without refund in cases of suspected misuse or fraud, or in compliance with applicable law.

Additional rules may apply based on your carrier’s agreement.

Who is eligible for this promotion?

Some promotions are exclusively for new ChatGPT Plus subscribers—those who have never had a ChatGPT Plus subscription before. See the details of the campaign as there may be other eligibility criteria that will be specified for the campaign.

How do I redeem the promo code?

Obtain your code from the partner (for example, by SMS or through their portal). Follow the unique link provided, then log in or create a new ChatGPT account. If you are eligible, you’ll see confirmation and either be taken to checkout (with the discount applied automatically) or have the promotion applied immediately without checkout, depending on the offer.

If you are taken to checkout, confirm the discount or trial is reflected before completing purchase (for example, that the price shows $0.00 or that the expected discount is applied). If checkout does not show the expected price, do not complete the purchase and contact the partner who issued the code or customer support with screenshots and details. If your promotion is applied immediately without checkout, confirm your updated plan/access after the confirmation message.

My promo code didn't work can you send me another one?

No, OpenAI does not reissue promo codes. To request another code, reach out to the partner who gave you the code for support.

What if I get an error message that I am not eligible?

Common reasons include already having a ChatGPT Plus subscription, having used a similar promo before, the code being expired, or the promotion not being valid in your region or with your payment method. If you think you received an error by mistake, please contact customer support at help.openai.com with details.

Can I share my promo code with friends or family?

Each promo code is meant for one user and cannot be transferred or sold for cash. Some partners provide a unique code for each subscriber account, so only you can redeem it. Refer to your partner’s promotional materials for more details.

What payment methods are accepted?

You can typically pay via standard ChatGPT Plus payment methods (credit card, debit card, or certain digital payment options). Some promotions may limit which payment methods are allowed. Check your partner’s information or the checkout page.

Will I be charged immediately for ChatGPT Plus?

Each promotion could be different: some start with a free trial, others a discounted price, and others a one-time promotional rate. Important things to know:

  • Most promotions auto-renew to the standard ChatGPT Plus monthly rate after the promotional period ends. If you don’t want to continue, cancel before your first billing date after the promotion ends (cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid an unwanted charge).

  • If your payment initially fails, our billing system may retry the payment later; a failed charge can sometimes succeed on a later retry, resulting in a charge even if the first attempt failed.

  • If you believe you were charged in error (for example, you saw a $0.00 trial at checkout but were still charged), contact support with screenshots and the subscription details; refunds are handled case-by-case.

Can I cancel my subscription before the promotion ends?

Yes. Promos are redeemable on the web and you can cancel anytime through your ChatGPT account settings on the web. Note: you must cancel from the same platform where you started the subscription — if you subscribed on the web, cancel on the web; if you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, cancel through that store. To cancel on the web: Settings → Subscription → Manage → Cancel. You can’t cancel through the ChatGPT mobile app.

If it was a free promotion, your access may end immediately upon cancellation. If it was a discount promotion, you will retain access for any remaining time in your current paid billing cycle. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid an unwanted charge.

If the Cancel button is missing, try these troubleshooting steps: confirm you’re signed into the account/email that has the subscription; check for multiple subscriptions (for example, one via an app store and one via the web); or cancel directly through the app store if you originally subscribed there.

Once canceled, you cannot reuse the same promo code. Reactivating your subscription after cancellation will not restore the promotional price, even if you resubscribe within the promotional period. The promotion duration must be used in consecutive months.

What happens after my promotional period ends?

Your subscription automatically renews at the standard ChatGPT Plus rate on a monthly basis unless you cancel. If you no longer wish to continue after the promotion, cancel before your first billing date after your promotional period ends.
