Luna Reserve is only available to select accounts, and is not available to every account. Availability can change.
Overview
Luna Reserve gives selected accounts additional usage with GPT-5.6 Luna after regular usage is exhausted. You can continue your conversation with Luna while reserve usage remains available.
Luna Reserve is a fallback mode, not a separate model you need to buy. It doesn't restore regular usage or unlock our most capable models.
Availability
Luna Reserve is available to selected personal ChatGPT Plus and Pro accounts. It isn't available in ChatGPT Business or Enterprise workspaces. Availability also depends on your account and supported app version.
Luna Reserve applies to supported Codex and ChatGPT Work experiences. It is separate from ordinary ChatGPT Chat and doesn't add API credits to your account.
Use Luna Reserve
If Luna Reserve is available in your account:
Open Codex or ChatGPT Work in the desktop app, or open ChatGPT Work on the web.
When you reach your regular usage limit, look for a notice about Luna Reserve or a moon indicator in the usage warning.
Continue your conversation with Luna.
Open the Luna Reserve indicator to see your options for accessing our most capable models. The options shown depend on your plan and account.
Dismissing the notice doesn't turn off Luna Reserve or restore regular usage. You can continue with Luna while reserve usage remains available.
Usage and limits
Regular usage and Luna Reserve have separate allowances:
Regular usage supports the models available with your plan.
Luna Reserve provides additional usage only with Luna after regular usage is exhausted.
Other models may be unavailable while your regular usage is exhausted. Luna Reserve has its own usage limit and isn't unlimited. Check the usage information in your account for your remaining allowance and any reset timing shown.
If you use all of your reserve before regular usage becomes available again, you'll need to wait for usage to become available or use an option offered in your account.
Return to regular usage
When regular usage becomes available again, you can return to the models available with your plan.
Depending on your plan and account, you may also see options to regain access to our most capable models, such as upgrading, adding credits, or applying an available reset. You may see one option or more than one. Use the options shown in your account.
Troubleshoot Luna Reserve
If you don't see Luna Reserve, your account may not be included for access to this feature. Reaching a regular usage limit doesn't by itself guarantee access, and availability can change.
If you previously had access and it disappears, or you notice unexpected reserve usage, contact OpenAI Support. Include:
Your plan and the product where you previously saw Luna Reserve.
The date, time, and time zone when the issue occurred.
A screenshot of the usage indicator and any message shown.
The app version and model you were using.
OpenAI Support can help investigate unexpected access or usage behavior, but support cannot add Luna Reserve to your account if you never had the feature.
