Why do some tasks take longer than others?
Work and Codex may need time to reason, use tools, or complete several steps before returning a result. Faster text generation doesn’t speed up every part of that work, so your task may not finish noticeably sooner.
What does approximately “50% faster” mean?
The roughly ~50% increase refers to how quickly GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol produce text at the default speed setting. It applies when you use your ChatGPT subscription in OpenAI products or supported partner apps, including OpenCode, Pi, Amp, and Devin.
If you have Plus or Pro, use Sign in with ChatGPT in a supported partner app and choose to use your ChatGPT plan for AI requests. See Using your ChatGPT plan in other apps and sites for details.
Support can’t currently verify the speed improvement for your account.
Do I need to enable Fast or Ultrafast to get the improvement?
No. The default speed improvement applies without changing your speed setting. Fast and Ultrafast are separate options with their own availability and usage rates. See speed settings for details.
What if a task is unusually slow, stuck, or failing?
Check OpenAI Status for a reported incident. Then try the steps for the product you’re using:
ChatGPT: Refresh the page or restart the app. If you’re in a long conversation, try a new chat. For more help, see Troubleshooting ChatGPT error messages.
Codex desktop: Check whether the chat is waiting for your approval. If it’s stuck, try a new chat with a smaller, focused prompt. For more help, see the desktop troubleshooting guide.
Partner apps: Contact the app provider for a task that fails or stalls in its app. See Using your ChatGPT plan in other apps and sites for troubleshooting guidance.
If a ChatGPT or Codex problem continues after troubleshooting, follow the reporting steps in the guide for that product.
How do promotional usage resets work?
A promotional reset refreshes the usage limits covered by an offer. Each offer has its own eligibility and timing. Promotional resets aren’t guaranteed every day, and a speed improvement doesn’t automatically include one.
How do automatic and banked resets differ?
Automatic reset: Resets eligible usage limits without any action from you. It won’t appear as a saved reset.
Banked reset: A reset saved to your account that you apply yourself before it expires. See How banked Codex resets work for steps and details.
What if my reset is missing or didn’t work?
Check the offer to confirm whether you qualify and when the reset should arrive. For a banked reset, also check its expiration date. An expired reset can’t be restored.
Refresh or reopen Settings → Usage, and make sure you’re viewing the correct account or workspace.
If you qualify but a reset hasn’t arrived when expected, won’t apply, or hasn’t refreshed your usage limits, contact Support with:
The offer or announcement you expected the reset from.
A screenshot of your current Usage page.
The Codex client and model you were using.
If you used the reset, the date, time, and time zone when you applied it.
Support can check your eligibility and investigate whether the reset was applied correctly.
Can I get a reset if I don’t notice faster responses?
No. Support can’t add a courtesy reset to your account.
Am I eligible for a refund if I don’t notice faster responses?
Not noticing a speed increase does not, by itself, qualify you for a refund. Our existing subscription refund policy applies.
