If you're on a paid ChatGPT plan (Plus, Pro, Team, or Enterprise), you can switch between models including GPT-4o, o1, o3-mini, and o3-mini-high. GPT-4o-mini and GPT-4 will be listed under "More models".

If you're on the Plus, Pro, or Team plan you'll be able to see GPT-4.5. Coming soon for Enterprise and Edu plans.

If you're on the Pro plan, you'll also see o1 pro mode.

We've released a research preview of GPT-4.5—our largest, and best model for chat, yet. GPT-4.5 is a step forward in scaling up pre-training and post-training. By scaling unsupervised learning, GPT-4.5 improves its ability to recognize patterns, draw connections, and generate creative insights without reasoning.

Early testing shows that interacting with GPT-4.5 feels more natural. Its broader knowledge base, improved ability to follow user intent, and greater “EQ” make it useful for tasks like improving writing, programming, and solving practical problems. We also expect it to hallucinate less.

We’re sharing GPT-4.5 as a research preview to better understand its strengths and limitations. We’re still exploring what it’s capable of and are eager to see how people use it in ways we might not have expected.

OpenAI o3-mini is the latest addition to our reasoning series, designed to excel in coding and other advanced reasoning tasks. It offers a compelling combination of speed, efficiency, and flexibility for both production and development use cases.

Notably, o3-mini demonstrates strong coding and complex reasoning capabilities on par (or even exceed at times) o1 while delivering much faster responses on average and being a very cost-effective model. We would recommend defaulting to o3-mini as the preferred small reasoning model of choice in the o-series, which will offer improved performance, faster responses, and a range of reasoning modes.

In addition, o3-mini works with search and enables the model to find up-to-date answers with links to relevant web sources. However, please note that o3-mini does not handle vision-based tasks. For visual reasoning, o1 is still recommended.

The OpenAI o1 and o1-mini models are a series of reasoning models for solving hard problems. While GPT-4o is still the best option for most prompts, the o1 series is helpful for handling complex, problem-solving tasks in domains like research, strategy, coding, math, and science.

For most use cases, especially those that involve the use of tools and vision, we recommend using GPT-4o in ChatGPT. Please note the following limitations on the OpenAI o1 and o1-mini models in ChatGPT:

GPT-4o is OpenAI's flagship model that can reason across audio, vision, and text in real time. GPT-4o is available in ChatGPT and the API as a text and vision model (ChatGPT will continue to have support for voice via the pre-existing Voice Mode feature) initially. Specifically, GPT-4o is available in ChatGPT Free, Plus, Pro, Team, and Enterprise, and in the Chat Completions API, Assistants API, and Batch API.

GPT-4o mini is also our fastest model. It's great for everyday tasks. This model is available to all users. Free users that reach rate limits with GPT-4o will be automatically switched to GPT-4o mini. Unlike GPT-4o and GPT-4, tools such as data analysis and file uploads are not available.

GPT-4 is great for tasks that require creativity and advanced reasoning. This model is available to ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise users. GPT-4 will also allow you to generate images with DALL•E 3.

Users on the Free tier will be defaulted to GPT-4o with a limit on the number of messages they can send using GPT-4o, which will vary based on current usage and demand. When unavailable, Free tier users will be switched back to GPT-4o mini.

Free users also receive limited access to messages using advanced tools through 4o, such as:

GPT-4o has advanced vision capabilities, which increases accuracy in understanding images you share.

Free tier users can use GPT-4o only a limited number of times within a five hour window. We’ll notify you once you’ve reached the limit and invite you to continue your conversation using GPT-4o mini or to upgrade to ChatGPT Plus / Pro.

Free tier users can upgrade to Plus or Pro at any time by clicking on ChatGPT:

ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team subscribers have GPT-4 and GPT-4o access on chatgpt.com with a larger usage cap.

ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users will be able to select GPT-4o from the drop down menu at the top of the page.

As of Feb 1, 2025, Plus users will be able to send up to 80 messages every 3 hours on GPT-4o and up to 40 messages every 3 hours on GPT-4. We may reduce the limit during peak hours to keep GPT-4 and GPT-4o accessible to the widest number of people.

The GPT-4 and GPT-4o message caps for a user in a ChatGPT Team workspace is higher than that of ChatGPT Plus.

The GPT-4 and GPT-4o message caps for a Pro user is virtually unlimited.

Please note that unused messages do not accumulate (i.e. if you wait 6 hours, you will not have 80 messages available to use for the next 3 hours on GPT-4).

The ChatGPT Enterprise plan is designed specifically to meet the needs of large enterprises, with unlimited, high-speed access to GPT-4o and GPT-4.

New conversations on a ChatGPT Enterprise account will default to GPT-4o. ChatGPT Enterprise users will be able to select other models from the drop down menu at the top of the page.

ChatGPT Enterprise also offers enterprise-grade security and privacy, longer context windows for processing longer inputs, unlimited, high speed access to advanced tools like data analysis, customization options, and much more.
