⚠️ This is a known issue and we are actively working on a fix to resolve this for all impacted users.

Summary

This "-17" error can happen when the Google Play services app is not allowing the phone permission.

The error can be caused by the Google Play Services app not having the required phone permissions.

How to resolve

To resolve this, please follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Open Device Settings: Start by navigating to the settings app on your Android device.

  2. Find the Apps or Applications Section: Depending on the brand and model of your device, this section might be named slightly differently. Browse your settings to locate a section where individual app settings are listed.

  3. Locate Google Play Services: You may need to view all apps, including the system apps, to find Google Play Services in the list.

  4. Go to Permissions: Once you're in the app's specific settings, look for a section labeled "Permissions" or something similar.

  5. Enable Phone Permission: Inside the permissions list, you should see an option labeled "Phone." Tap on it and ensure that it's toggled on or granted.

After granting the required permission, try signing into the ChatGPT Android app again.
