Why am I being asked to verify my age?
To comply with legal requirements, users in some locations are required to verify their age before continuing to use the service.
How age verification works
Sign in to ChatGPT and follow the age-verification banner. You have 60 days to finish. If you miss that deadline, you won’t be able to use ChatGPT until verification is complete.
For initial verification while your account is active, we use Yoti. Follow its instructions to confirm your age. The available methods may include a selfie, a government-issued ID, or the Yoti app. After a successful check, you’ll return to ChatGPT and can resume using it.
If your account was deactivated because you missed Italy’s required age-verification deadline, try signing in and select Verify your age on the deactivation screen. You can also restart verification through Stripe without signing in or finding the original email.
Use your OpenAI account’s email address, including its Apple private relay address if you use Hide My Email. Once verification has finished processing, try signing in again. What if I’m between the ages of 13 and 17 years old?
You will need to have your parent or guardian complete the age verification check on your behalf.
What happens if I fail the age verification?
Your access to ChatGPT will be blocked until you complete age verification.
'Unfortunately, your age could not be verified. Please try again later.'
This error message means that you started the age verification process but canceled it for any reason.
'Unfortunately, your age could not be verified. Please contact support.'
This indicates you've reached the limit of age verification attempts without success. As a result, your account is deactivated for security reasons. Please contact support by visiting help.openai.com.
