You can now edit images you create with DALL·E

The DALL·E editor interface enables you to edit images by selecting an area of the image to edit and describing your changes in chat. You can also provide a prompt with your desired edit in the conversation panel, without using the selection tool.

You can access the DALL·E editor interface by clicking on an image generated by DALL·E.

Understanding the DALL·E editor interface

The editor interface provides a range of options to highlight parts of your generated image that you want to update.

On the top-left of the editor, you can change the size of the selection tool to easily highlight the area you want updated. We recommend selecting a large space around the area you intend to edit to obtain better results.

You can also undo and redo selections with the Undo and Redo buttons above the image, or select Clear Selection to start over entirely.

Editing with the DALL·E editor interface

The editor interface enables you to add, remove, and update parts of your image.

For example, by highlighting the top corner of the image and using the prompt “Add cherry blossoms,” we obtain the following result:

You can also remove objects from an image. In the following example, the birds have been highlighted and the prompt “remove birds” has been used:

You can update specific characteristics of objects in your selection. In the following example, the kitten’s face has been highlighted and the prompt “change the cat’s expression to happy” was used:

You can save your creation by selecting the Save button on the top-right corner of the editor.

Editing conversationally with DALL·E

You also have the option to provide a prompt with your desired edit in the conversation panel on the right side of the DALL·E editor interface, without the need to use the selection tool. If you want the edit to apply to a specific area in your image, we suggest adding that information in your prompt.

For instance, the following prompt updates the image to black and white with the prompt “make it black and white”:

You can access the DALL·E editor interface on the ChatGPT mobile app by selecting an image generated by DALL·E.

Selecting Edit enables the option to provide a prompt with your desired edit in the conversation panel:

Selecting Select provides you access to the selection tool, enabling you to highlight parts of the image to edit. The slider of the left side of the screen allows you to change the size of the selection tool, and the undo and redo buttons at the bottom of the screen allow you to undo and redo your selections.

After completing your selections, select Next of the bottom-right of the screen. In the conversation panel, you can complete the edit by describing the changes you want to make to the highlighted areas of the image.
