Canvas

Now, you can create and edit canvases on macOS using GPT 4o.

Fixes & improvements

  • Added support for Tasks.

  • Added support for working in Projects. (For now, you’ll still have to create them first on web.)

  • Fixed an issue where image attachments were unattached when switching models.

  • Fixed renaming chats in the sidebar.

Talk with apps

You can now work with apps while using Advanced Voice Mode. It’s great for live debugging in terminals, thinking through documents, or getting feedback on speaker notes.

Conversation search

Now you can search through all your previous conversations using keywords and phrases by clicking the search bar.

Work with note taking tools

  • We’ve added support for more note-taking and coding apps, including Apple Notes, Notion, Quip, and Warp. For the full list of supported apps, see here.

Fixes & improvements

  • Added a sticky copy button for code blocks.

  • Added back the keyboard shortcut for toggling the sidebar.

  • Added native support for customizing the layout of the window toolbar.

  • Fixed a bug causing ChatGPT to erroneously receive keyboard shortcuts after being opened from the menu bar.

  • Fixed an issue where buttons in the conversation view were not clickable, and text was not selectable.

  • Fixed an issue where items would appear overlapped in fullscreen mode.

Slash commands

Now you can use slash commands in the macOS app to quickly search with ChatGPT, initiate reasoning with o1-preview, and generate images using DALL·E.

We’re adding support for more coding apps, including:

  • VS Code forks like VS Code Insiders, VS Codium, Cursor, Windsurf

  • JetBrains IDEs like Android Studio, IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm, PHPStorm, CLion, Rider, RubyMine, AppCode, GoLand, DataGrip

  • Panic’s Nova (an editor) & Prompt (a Terminal)

  • TextMate

  • BBEdit

Fixes & improvements

  • Fixed a bug causing unnecessary network usage.

  • Fixed a crash when clicking Upload Photo from the chat window.

  • Fixed an issue that prevented the Option + Space shortcut from opening the Companion Window.

Redesigned chat bar with model picker

Now you can switch models and enable Temporary Chats directly from the chat bar.

Advanced voice mode

Now, you can chat with your computer and get hands-free advice and answers while you work. Advanced Voice Mode offers more natural, real-time conversations, allows you to interrupt anytime, and senses and responds to your emotions.

OpenAI o1-preview & o1-mini

The macOS app supports our OpenAI o1-preview and o1-mini models—a new series designed to spend more time thinking before they respond. These models can reason through complex tasks and solve harder problems than previous models in science, coding, and math.

New text fade animation

We've refined the ChatGPT response animation with a smooth fade-in effect.

Fixes and improvements

  • Added a preference to open chat links in the browser.

  • Added notifications for when the assistant finishes replying in the background. These are especially useful when using reasoning models.

  • Added support for Apple Handoff between iOS and macOS.

  • Added support for finding text within a conversation via Command + F or the app menu.

  • Added support for restoring draft messages.

  • Fixed a number of bugs around keyboard focus.

  • Improved accessibility support on conversations.

  • Improved performance launching the app.

  • Improved performance scrolling in conversations—by a lot.

Companion window

The macOS desktop app now gives you side-by-side access to ChatGPT with the new companion window. It stays in front of all other windows so you can be more productive while working across ChatGPT and other apps.

Use the Option + Space shortcut to

  • Start a new chat

  • Refocus the cursor to an open companion window

  • Reopen the last companion window

Customize its position, reset time, and keyboard shortcut in Settings. You can also pop out a previous conversation into a companion window by clicking the icon from the main desktop app window.

Improvements to data analysis

This release enhances data analysis on desktop: Interact with tables and charts in a new expandable view, customize and download charts for presentations and documents, and select specific table cells for precise analysis.

  • Added a new shortcut to stop streaming responses: Command + .

  • Added a shortcut to quickly share the main desktop: Command + Shift + 1

  • Added a shortcut to quickly share the active window: Command + Shift + 2

Customization options

  • Added an option to disable macOS autocorrect.

  • Added a setting to show ChatGPT in the menu bar, dock, or both.

Enhanced functionality

  • Introduced horizontal scrolling for tables, code blocks, and mathematical formulas.

  • Added support for @mentioning GPTs.

  • Enabled the ability to choose which display to screenshot.

  • Added a "Launch at Login" option, which is off by default.

Additional improvements:

  • Enhanced security for local data storage.

  • Improved performance when streaming chat responses.

  • Polished the rendering of text, tables, and mathematical formulas.
