Connect Google Analytics 4 to OpenAI Ads Manager

Connecting Google Analytics 4 (GA4) lets advertisers share GA4 data with OpenAI to support campaign optimization, where eligible, and compare attribution results between OpenAI Ads Manager and Google Analytics.

Availability: This feature is in beta. Reach out to your account manager to get early access. The current beta supports connection setup. Event mapping is coming soon; advertisers will need to map their GA4 events to OpenAI events to enable reporting.

Before you begin

Before you connect, make sure you have:

  • Access to the advertiser account you want to connect.

  • A Google account with Viewer access or higher to the GA4 property that contains the website or app activity you want to review.

  • Authorization to connect the property and permit OpenAI to retrieve and use the selected GA4 data on your organization’s behalf.

Each advertiser account supports one GA4 connection and one selected property.

Connect your property

  1. Open the advertiser account you want to connect in Ads Manager. Go to Conversions → Data Sources, then select Create.

  2. Select Google Analytics 4 to begin setup.

  3. Review the Data access and terms section before continuing.

  4. Sign in with the Google account that has access to your GA4 property. Review and approve the request for read-only Google Analytics access.

  5. Select the GA4 property you want to connect. Check the property name, then complete the connection.

Data access and terms

By connecting Google Analytics, you authorize OpenAI, on your organization’s behalf, to retrieve and use the selected GA4 data in accordance with the Advertising Terms. You confirm that you have authority to bind your organization and that your organization has provided all required notices, has and will maintain all necessary rights, consents, and lawful bases, and will comply with those terms and applicable law.

Review your data

Return to Data Sources and open your GA4 connection to review its status, last successful sync, and imported event activity.

  • Reporting period: The initial report covers the last 30 completed days in the GA4 property’s time zone. The current day is excluded.

  • Seven-day trend: Compares the latest seven completed days in the report with the preceding seven days.

Event totals include all events reported for the selected property across all traffic sources. They are not limited to key events, purchases, or events attributed to OpenAI ads, and do not represent campaign conversion counts or return on ad spend (ROAS).

Manage your connection

Reconnect

If you’re asked to authorize the connection again, open it in Data Sources and follow the reconnect steps. Use a Google account that still has access to the selected property.

Disconnect

To stop the connection, open its settings and choose the disconnect option. To connect again later, return to GA4 setup and authorize the property.

Troubleshooting

Why can’t I find my GA4 property?

Check that you’re signed in to the correct Google account and have access to the specific property. If needed, ask your GA4 administrator to verify your access.

Why is Google authorization blocked?

Your organization may restrict third-party Google apps. Ask your Google Workspace administrator to review the request. Do not bypass a Google security warning.

Why are events missing or totals different from GA4?

Confirm that the selected property has data for the completed dates shown. In GA4, compare event counts for the same property, dates, and time zone. Reports filtered to one event or traffic source may differ from the property-wide total.

Why does my data look out of date?

Check the last successful sync and reconnect if you’re asked to authorize the connection again. If an error persists, contact your OpenAI Ads support contact with the GA4 property ID and the error message.
