Overview
How is my dot different from a regular ChatGPT conversation?
Your dot is an always-on agent in ChatGPT that can take on ongoing responsibility and keep making progress between conversations. Powered by GPT-6 Astra, it has its own cloud computer, works across the apps you choose to connect, and remembers context to help with ongoing work.
Give your dot a goal and define what it can do on its own. It can work through complex problems, figure out what needs to happen next, and bring results back for your review. It turns to you for decisions that need your judgment.
Which plans include dots?
Dots are rolling out in ChatGPT on web, mobile, and desktop starting today to Pro users in markets excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK. Dots are also available to Business Premium users across all supported ChatGPT regions, and Enterprise users can try the beta when their workspace admin enables it (but it is initially turned off by default).
For the next month, dots usage won’t count toward eligible Pro, Business, and Enterprise users’ plan allowances. After this period, we’ll share usage terms for each plan.
Dots are rolling out gradually. Access may take several days to reach your account.
Getting started
How do I set up my dot?
Create your dot in the ChatGPT desktop app or in ChatGPT on desktop web. Follow the onboarding prompts to get started. The desktop app is also available on Windows.
After creating your dot, you can talk to it in the ChatGPT mobile app when mobile access is available. You cannot currently create a dot on mobile, and dots are not supported on mobile web.
Use desktop to connect messaging channels, such as Slack or texting.
You can give your dot a name during setup. Its default handle is @yourname-dot. When you name it, its handle becomes @yourname-agentname. To change its name or avatar later, select its name or avatar to open the profile, then select the pencil icon.
You can choose from the available characters or select a pet for your dot. Your dot may also generate a pet for you.
Working with your dot
How do I give my dot a task?
Describe what you want your dot to do and share the details it needs. For example, you can ask it to review your calendar, research a topic, or remind you about something later. You can reply in the conversation to provide more information or change the request.
To attach a file or photo, select + in the conversation.
Open your dot’s profile on the desktop app to review activity under In progress, Scheduled, and Completed. You can also open your dot’s computer from the profile to view and interact with it. On mobile, the computer opens in your control.
Can my dot use my own computer?
Your dot has its own cloud computer. Access to your local computer is optional and starts turned off. To connect a computer, use the ChatGPT desktop app on that computer. Work on your local computer runs in separate tasks that appear in the sidebar.
When you connect a computer and confirm Allow access, your dot can access files and work on that computer from any of its messaging channels. Confirm Revoke access to stop your dot from accessing files or working on that computer.
With local computer access enabled, your dot can create Work or Codex tasks, use local skills, and use your local browser when its cloud browser is blocked.
Can my dot use Codex cloud environments?
Your dot can create cloud tasks in Codex cloud environments. Create the environment in Codex before asking your dot to use it.
Connected apps
How do I connect and manage apps?
Connected apps give your dot access to information it can use for your tasks. Your dot can also review that information proactively and form memories from it, even when you haven’t asked a specific question about it.
To review or connect an app on mobile, open your dot’s profile and go to Customize → Plugins. Select a supported app and review its permissions before connecting it. The Plugins screen uses shared ChatGPT settings. Available apps may differ.
You can disconnect connected apps. Disconnecting an app does not delete information your dot has already obtained from it. To delete that information, you need to delete your dot. See How do I reset my dot? below.
Can I connect my dot to Slack or email?
You can connect your dot to Slack. Set up messaging channels from desktop.
You can connect your personal email account so your dot can use it for your tasks. At launch, you cannot give your dot its own standalone email address.
Can my dot call me?
Your dot cannot initiate calls to you at launch.
Scheduled tasks
How do I schedule tasks and receive updates?
Ask your dot to set a reminder or run a recurring check. For example, you could ask it to review your calendar each morning and tell you what’s coming up.
Scheduled runs and proactive updates appear in the conversation. To manage scheduled tasks, open Scheduled in your dot’s profile. You can review active, paused, and completed tasks. Open a task to change its repeat schedule, time, or completion notifications.
When can my dot start work without a new message from me?
Your dot can research in the background and suggest ways to help. It can also review connected information proactively and form memories from it, even when you haven’t asked a new question. It can run reminders or recurring tasks you’ve scheduled. You can review scheduled work in your dot’s profile or pause your dot when you don’t want it to continue.
Texting
How do I text my dot?
Where available, texting uses a third-party provider and is offered as a limited beta. Exercise caution when sharing sensitive information through text messages.
The beta is limited to Pro users in the US and is not available in Business or Enterprise workspaces. Access is limited and may not be available to every Pro user.
If texting is available for your account, you can use the desktop app to connect your phone and follow the setup prompts. After setup, you can message your dot from your phone.
How do I stop texts from my dot?
Reply STOP to stop outgoing text messages from your dot. To delete your dot’s conversations and saved memories, use Reset as described below.
Do message or data charges apply?
Message and data rates may apply. Review the notice when you enable texting, along with OpenAI’s Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
Memory
How does my dot use memory?
Your dot receives memories from ChatGPT and can create its own memories, including from connected apps. This lets it use context in ongoing work.
On mobile, Customize → Memory shows what ChatGPT remembers. This screen uses shared ChatGPT memory settings.
To delete your dot’s own saved memories, you need to delete your dot. See How do I reset my dot? below.
Controls and approvals
How do I manage confirmations and custom rules?
For some actions, you can set rules for what your dot can share, purchase, or access.
On mobile, open Customize → Custom rules to review the default rules or add a rule. Describe the action the rule covers, then choose one of the available behaviors:

Take action if pre-approved
Ask before taking action
Hand off to you
“Pre-approved” means you explicitly requested the action in your prompt. Save the rule with the checkmark, then review it in Custom rules.
Your dot can make mistakes, including when following your rules. Review its work and check important details before relying on the result.
How do I pause my dot?
To stop your dot until you’re ready to resume, open the ••• menu in its profile and select Pause. To start it again, select Paused • Tap to resume.
How do I reset my dot?
Reset deletes your dot, including its conversations, saved memories, and scheduled tasks. Review the deletion notice before confirming.
Open your dot’s profile and select the ••• menu.
Select Reset.
Review what will be deleted, then select Reset to confirm or Cancel to keep your dot.
After resetting, you return to a new ChatGPT chat. Create a new dot in the ChatGPT desktop app or on desktop web.
