Updated: 6 hours ago

Overview

ChatGPT Atlas has been retired and no longer receives updates. This article explains what to do with previously exported data and where to get help if you still need information saved in Atlas.

Your Atlas data

  • Bookmarks: Bookmarks do not transfer automatically. If you previously exported an HTML bookmarks file, you can import it into another browser.

  • Open tabs: Atlas tabs do not transfer automatically. If you previously saved URLs or bookmarks, you can reopen those pages in another browser.

  • Browser history: Atlas browsing history does not transfer automatically.

  • Cookies and signed-in sessions: Sign in to websites again in your new browser. Do not share cookie or session files with other people.

  • ChatGPT conversations: Your conversations are separate from Atlas browser data. You can continue using them in ChatGPT, subject to your plan, workspace settings, and account access.

Import previously exported bookmarks

These steps require a bookmarks HTML file you previously exported from Atlas. You do not need to open Atlas.

  1. Locate your exported bookmarks HTML file, then open Chrome.

  2. Select More, then Bookmarks and lists.

  3. Select Import bookmarks and settings.

  4. Select Choose file, then select your previously exported bookmarks HTML file.

  5. Select Open, then Done.

For details, see Google's bookmark import instructions.

Workspace admin guidance

  • Share this retirement article with workspace members who previously used Atlas.

  • Help members move to an approved, supported browser.

  • Update internal documentation, onboarding materials, and support guidance that still refer to using Atlas.

  • Direct unresolved data-access questions to OpenAI Support, and remind members not to share passwords, cookies, or session files.

Troubleshooting

Find your exported bookmarks

Check your Downloads folder and the folder you selected during export. The exported file should be an HTML file.

Find your imported bookmarks in Chrome

Chrome may place imported bookmarks in a new imported folder or in Other bookmarks. Open Chrome's bookmark manager and check those locations.

Change your default browser

Choose a supported browser as your default using Apple's instructions for changing your default browser.

Remove Atlas from your Mac

Follow Apple's instructions for uninstalling apps. If macOS says Atlas is in use, quit it or restart your Mac and try again. If you still need data saved in Atlas, contact OpenAI Support before deleting local browser data.

Check ChatGPT access in your workspace

If you use ChatGPT through a workspace, ask your workspace admin which ChatGPT experiences are available under your workspace settings.

FAQ

What if I did not export my data before Atlas retired?

If you do not have a previous export and can no longer access information you need, contact OpenAI Support. Recovery is not guaranteed.

What should I do about passwords saved in Atlas?

If you previously exported a compatible password CSV file, follow Google Password Manager's import instructions. After successfully importing the passwords, delete the CSV because it contains readable passwords. If you cannot access a saved password, use that website's account recovery process.

Are Atlas browser memories the same as ChatGPT memories?

No. Atlas browser memories are separate from ChatGPT memories. See ChatGPT Data Controls for your ChatGPT account. For questions or requests about Atlas data, use the Privacy Portal or contact OpenAI Support.

Does deleting my ChatGPT chats delete Atlas data?

No. Deleting ChatGPT chats does not delete Atlas browser memories, cookies, or other Atlas-specific data. Do not assume that uninstalling Atlas or changing ChatGPT Memory settings deletes that data.

Does removing Atlas cancel my ChatGPT subscription?

No. To cancel a subscription, follow Canceling your ChatGPT subscription for the platform that billed you.

What happened to the default browser promotion?

The temporary higher rate limits applied only in Atlas for up to seven consecutive days. They did not transfer to other ChatGPT experiences. The promotion did not create a paid subscription or an automatic charge.
