Eligible users may see an in-product Codex referral offer. Depending on the offer, eligible users may be able to invite another person to try Codex and receive a promotional benefit after the invited person completes the required action.
Referral benefits may include Codex usage credits, a Codex rate-limit reset, temporary additional Codex usage, or another benefit described in the offer. The exact benefit, cap, expiration, and redemption requirements may vary by plan, workspace, region, and promotion.
Rewards are not granted when an invite is sent. They are granted only after the invited person accepts the invite, meets eligibility requirements, completes the qualifying Codex action, and passes any required checks. Some offers may require the invited person to join a specific ChatGPT Business workspace. OpenAI may modify or wind down referral promotions with at least 30 days' notice.

An account, subscription, or workspace in good standing.
Prior Codex usage or an eligible Codex usage, credit, or rate-limit event.
A professional or matching workspace email domain, when required by the offer.
Remaining within any referral caps, cooldowns, or redemption limits described in the offer.
Invitee eligibility may require:
Accepting the referral through the official referral flow described in the offer.
Using an eligible email address or account as described in the offer.
Joining the relevant workspace, if the offer is tied to a ChatGPT Business workspace.
Being new to Codex or having no recent Codex usage during the lookback period specified in the offer.
Completing the qualifying Codex action described in the offer.
Duplicate redemptions, self-invites, address aliases used to evade eligibility, device-linked self-referrals, and other suspected fraudulent or abusive activity are not eligible.
Terms
OpenAI's Service Credit Terms apply to any credits issued under a referral promotion. OpenAI's usage, rate-limit, and service terms also apply to any rate-limit reset, temporary usage benefit, or other promotional benefit issued under a referral promotion.
Referral credits are not API credits unless the offer explicitly says otherwise. Referral benefits cannot be redeemed for cash and may not be transferred, sold, or exchanged.
Rate-limit resets and temporary usage benefits apply only to the eligible Codex experience described in the offer. They do not create a cash, API, or transferable credit balance.
Reward amounts, caps, cooldowns, expiration, redemption windows, and availability are shown in the applicable offer and may vary by plan, workspace, region, or promotion.
If an invitee receives multiple referral invites, only the first qualifying referral may be eligible for reward redemption. A reward is granted only after the invitee completes the required qualifying action and passes eligibility checks.
OpenAI may modify or wind down referral promotions with at least 30 days' notice. We reserve the right to revoke, terminate, or cancel credits, rate-limit resets, promotional usage benefits, your use of ChatGPT, and/or your account without refund in cases of suspected misuse or fraud, in compliance with applicable law, or as permitted under the OpenAI Services Agreement. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to our Services or delete your account as permitted under OpenAI's Terms of Use if we determine:
You breached these Terms or our Usage Policies.
We must do so to comply with the law.
Your use of our Services could cause risk or harm to OpenAI, our users, or anyone else.
If you believe we have suspended or terminated your account in error, you can file an appeal with us by contacting our Support team.

Yes, if the workspace and users meet the offer's eligibility requirements, the workspace is in good standing, and referral promotions have not been disabled by a workspace admin.
Who can be invited?
Invitee eligibility depends on the offer. Requirements may include being new to Codex, having no recent Codex usage during a specified lookback period, using an eligible email address, joining a relevant workspace, and completing a qualifying Codex action.
What if the invited person already uses ChatGPT or Codex?
Eligibility depends on the offer. Some offers may allow existing ChatGPT users if they are new to Codex or are not yet part of the relevant workspace. Other offers may exclude people with recent Codex usage.
What if the same person receives multiple referral invites?
Only the first qualifying referral invite can count toward reward redemption. Duplicate invites do not create additional rewards.
What happens if I am no longer rate-limited by the time the invited person completes the required action?
The reward may still be granted if the referral remains within any applicable redemption period and all other eligibility requirements are met.
Are referral credits API credits?
No, unless the offer explicitly says otherwise. Credits issued under these promotions are generally for the Codex or ChatGPT experience described in the offer.
Are rate-limit resets credits?
No. Rate-limit resets and temporary usage windows are not credits and do not create a cash, API, or transferable credit balance.
Can workspace admins turn referral promotions off?
ChatGPT Business workspace admins may disable referral promotions for their workspace. If disabled, eligible users should not see workspace referral offers and new workspace referral rewards will not be granted.
Do referral rewards expire?
Referral rewards may expire as described in the referral offer or applicable terms. For offers that grant a banked Codex rate-limit reset, the reset must be used within 30 days after it is added to your bank, unless the offer says otherwise. Check the offer for expiration and redemption details.
Can OpenAI end or change these promotions?
OpenAI may modify or wind down referral promotions with at least 30 days' notice. OpenAI may also revoke or cancel rewards sooner in cases of suspected misuse, fraud, or other violations, in compliance with law, or as permitted under applicable terms.
Can I transfer or sell a referral offer?
No. Referral offers are intended only for eligible users and eligible invitees. They may not be transferred, sold, or exchanged.
