Updating billing information, Tax ID, and VAT ID

Learn how to update billing information, Tax ID, and VAT ID for ChatGPT and OpenAI API accounts.

Overview

This article explains where to update billing information, including Tax ID and VAT ID, for ChatGPT and OpenAI API accounts. It also explains when billing changes apply to invoices.

If the Tax ID you provide is found to be invalid, it may be removed from system records at any time and applicable taxes may be charged.

Update billing information

How you update billing information depends on your account type.

Individual ChatGPT accounts

  1. Go to chatgpt.com.

  2. Select your profile icon, then select Settings.

  3. Select the Billing tab.

  4. Under Billing information, select Edit.

  5. Update your billing information, including adding your Tax ID, as needed.

  6. Select Save.

If you see Payment in Account settings

  1. Open Settings, then select Account.

  2. Under Payment, select Manage to open the billing portal.

  3. Under Billing information, select Update information to edit your billing details.

ChatGPT Business accounts

Before you begin, sign in as an owner of the Business workspace whose billing information you want to update, and switch to that workspace.

  1. Go to chatgpt.com.

  2. Select your profile icon, then select Workspace settings.

  3. Select Billing.

  4. Select Settings.

  5. Select Edit.

  6. Update your billing information, including adding your Tax ID, as needed.

  7. Select Save.

OpenAI API accounts

If you have permission to manage billing for an API organization, go to your organization’s billing preferences to view and update its billing information, including adding your Tax ID.

Invoice changes

Changes to billing information or Tax ID apply to future invoices only. Previously issued invoices cannot be updated retroactively through these settings.

If you need a review or possible reissue of a previously issued invoice, contact OpenAI Support through the Help Center chat widget and include the relevant invoice number.
