Prepaid Billing allows API users to pre-purchase tokens. As of today, new accounts are enrolled in Prepaid Billing.
If you're currently on our Monthly Billing plan, you can also purchase credits upfront for API usage. Your monthly invoice will be offset by the credits you used.
Here is an overview of how Prepaid Billing works:
1. Purchasing Credits: You can purchase credits upfront for API usage. The minimum purchase is $5 with a default of $10. Each trust tier, which is determined by your usage and payment history, defines a maximum amount that can be in your account at one time.
2. Using Credits: The credits you purchase are deducted based on the API usage. If you have free credits in your account, they will be used first before any paid credits.
3. Auto Recharge: This feature allows you to set an automatic recharge amount, which is the amount of credits that will be added to your account when your balance falls below a set threshold. The minimum Auto Recharge amount is $5 and the maximum is defined by your Trust Tier.
4. Expiry and Refunds: Purchased credits expire after 1 year and are non-refundable.
5. Billing Errors: If an initial payment fails, you will receive an error message and no credits will be deposited in your account. If a replenishment fails, you will receive an email and your API usage will be halted once your account balance reaches $0.
6. Disputed Payments and Refunds: If a payment is disputed or refunded, credits equivalent to the disputed or refunded amount will be removed from your account.
7. Trust Tiers & Rate Limits: The number of API requests you can make per minute (RPM) and the number of tokens you can use per minute (TPM) depend on your Trust Tier. Stay tuned for more information on Trust Tiers.
