Overview
The privacy center is a place in ChatGPT to learn about your privacy options and find the settings that manage them.
You can still manage your privacy settings from the Settings menu in ChatGPT. The privacy center explains what they do and takes you to the right setting or feature when you want to make a change.
Availability
Privacy Center is rolling out to signed-in ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, Pro, and Business users on the web and in the ChatGPT apps for iOS and Android. This rollout does not include ChatGPT Enterprise, Edu, or ChatGPT for Healthcare.
Individual features and controls depend on your plan, region, account, and workspace settings. If you don’t see Privacy Center, it may not be available for your account or app version yet.
Open the Privacy Center
On the web: Open your account menu, select Help, then select Privacy center.
On mobile: Open Settings, then select Privacy Center on iOS or Privacy center on Android.
On desktop: If your app’s Help menu includes Privacy center, select it to open Privacy Center in your browser.
How the Privacy Center and settings work together
Your privacy controls remain in Settings. The privacy center explains what each one does and helps you find the setting you need.
Select a topic to learn how it works. If Manage appears, select it to open the existing setting. Some topics offer a different action, such as New temporary chat.
Opening the privacy center does not change your settings, delete your data, or override your organization’s policies.

Explore your privacy options
The privacy center organizes related features into three categories. Select a category, then choose a topic to learn more or open an available control.
Personalized chats and ads
Select Personalized chats & ads to review:
Memory: Learn how ChatGPT uses remembered information to personalize responses, and open available memory settings. Deleting a chat does not automatically delete a memory saved from it. For more information, see: Memory in ChatGPT.
Personalized ads: Learn how ad personalization works and review available ad controls. Ads may appear for eligible Free and Go users. Other plans, including Business, Enterprise, Edu, and ChatGPT for Healthcare, do not have ads. For more information, see: Ads in ChatGPT.
Location: Learn how ChatGPT uses location for relevant results and manage location sharing, when available. ChatGPT does not separately save or store your precise location outside of what information is included in your ChatGPT conversation and context. Precise location sharing is not available in ChatGPT Enterprise workspaces. For more information, see: Searching the web with ChatGPT.
Chat privacy
Select Chat privacy to learn about temporary chat and open the option to start one.
Temporary chat: Learn how temporary conversations handle history, personalization, model improvement, and retention. For more information, see: Temporary chat in ChatGPT.
To start a temporary chat, select Temporary chat, then New temporary chat.
Data use and access
Select Data use & access to review:
Plugins & apps: Learn what information connected apps can access and which permissions they may require. Your organization may control which apps are available. For more information, see: Apps in ChatGPT.
Multi-factor authentication (MFA): Learn how to add another verification step when signing in. For setup instructions, see: Managing multi-factor authentication (MFA).
Model improvement: Eligible personal accounts can use Improve the model for everyone to choose whether their content helps improve OpenAI models. Turning it off does not delete your chats or remove them from your history. By default, OpenAI does not use content from ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, Edu, or ChatGPT for Healthcare workspaces to train its models. Export or delete your data: When these options are available, request a copy of eligible data or permanently delete your account. For instructions, see: Exporting your ChatGPT history and data and Deleting your ChatGPT account.
Self-service data export is not available in ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or ChatGPT for Healthcare workspaces. Eligible ChatGPT Edu workspaces may allow data exports when an administrator enables them. Self-service account deletion is not available in managed workspaces.

Our approach to privacy
The privacy center explains four parts of OpenAI’s approach to privacy:
We don’t sell your data: OpenAI does not sell your data or share your ChatGPT conversations with advertisers or marketing partners.
We secure your information: OpenAI uses safeguards such as encryption, security testing, and monitoring for suspicious activity.
You control your data: Depending on your plan, account, and workspace settings, you can review options for accessing, exporting, or deleting eligible data.
You control whether your chats are used to improve our models: Eligible personal accounts can choose whether their content helps improve OpenAI models. By default, OpenAI does not use content from ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, Edu, or ChatGPT for Healthcare workspaces to train its models.
When eligible conversation data is used to improve OpenAI models, OpenAI works to identify and remove personally identifiable information.
Privacy in a Business workspace
If you use a ChatGPT Business workspace, your organization may control which privacy features and settings are available and how workspace data is retained or reviewed.
The privacy center does not override administrator controls, workspace retention policies, or authorized access to workspace data.

The Privacy Portal is a separate website for submitting privacy requests. The privacy center is part of ChatGPT and helps you understand and find your privacy settings.
