What is AI phone support?

AI phone support is an experimental AI phone agent we're testing in preview mode. It's designed to answer general questions about ChatGPT and other OpenAI products. You don't need a ChatGPT account to call.

OpenAI will never initiate a call or chat. You can start a conversation by calling the phone number available for your country or region. Standard carrier fees may apply.

How are my calls used to improve your services?

Calls may be used to help improve OpenAI's services, which may include using audio clips and transcripts to help train our models. Prior to using audio clips for training, we take steps to reduce the amount of personal information in the audio clip.

This data helps us better understand user needs and preferences, allowing our models to become more efficient over time. Please see our Privacy Policy for more on how we handle data.

Do you have any tips for preventing interruptions with voice conversations?

For the best experience:

  • Call from a quiet environment.

  • Background noise may cause unintended responses; we recommend enabling noise isolation features on your device.

  • On iPhones, enabling Voice Isolation mode via Control Center > Mic Mode > Voice Isolation can help to avoid unintentional interruptions

  • Using headphones or earphones can help prevent interruptions.

Do you retain conversations from AI phone support?

We may retain your calls, including transcripts and audio recordings, to help improve our services. Efforts will be made to reduce identifying information in any training data derived from your recordings.

We may also retain your calls for safety and abuse prevention purposes. Learn more about how we may review your content for safety.

How do I export my data from AI phone support or request for data to be deleted?

Your conversations with AI phone support are disassociated from the phone number you used to call, and we will not be able to retrieve or export associated data from those conversations.

Why is AI phone support line telling me it can’t help me or being unresponsive to my prompts?

There are multiple reasons the phone line may not respond to your prompts. This is an experimental feature as we explore enabling access to our models through phone calls. We expect to continue improving the experience as we better understand its usage.

You may also not be getting a response to your prompt as a result of our safety measures. If it seems like your prompt is in line with our Usage Policies, then please send us feedback at help.openai.com or click on the widget on this page. To report potential policy violations or illegal content, you can do so at our Report Content web form.

My number has been blocked, can you please unblock my number?

We’re sorry to hear that your number has been blocked from accessing AI phone support. This may occur if we believe your usage violates our Terms of Use or if you are calling from an unsupported region. If you believe this was done in error, please submit a request by clicking on the help widget in the bottom right hand corner of this page.
