Unrecognized ChatGPT or API Credit Purchase Charges

Get assistance for unrecognized charges

Updated: 59 minutes ago

If you do not recognize a ChatGPT or API credit purchase charge, our team can investigate and review refund eligibility. Unauthorized charges must be validated before a refund is issued. If your account was compromised, the necessary security steps must also be completed.

Before escalating, please check your invoices from your billing page to confirm whether the charge matches a recent subscription or API credit purchase. In some cases, a charge may not be fraudulent and could have been made by a family member or someone else who had access to the card.

If you encounter suspicious activity, please use the Unauthorized Activity webform and choose ‘Report unauthorized activity involving my account.’

We strongly recommend contacting your bank immediately if you believe the charge is unauthorized to prevent further fraudulent activity. Prompt action can limit your liability and start the dispute process efficiently.

If you have already opened a payment dispute, let Support know its status and whether your bank has returned the funds. We cannot issue a separate refund while a dispute is active or after funds have already been returned through that dispute. If the dispute was resolved in OpenAI's favor and the funds were not returned, we can review the request under the applicable refund policy. This does not limit your ability to contact your bank or card issuer.

If you'd like to cancel your subscription, please follow the steps in our help article.
