Updated: 13 minutes ago

Note: ChatGPT Business workspaces created before June 24, 2026 had access to a specific legacy Codex seat type. This is not applicable to any workspaces that did not add this seat type before this date. To learn more, review our article Managing legacy Codex seats in ChatGPT Business.

Plan basics

What is ChatGPT Business?

ChatGPT Business is a self-serve workspace plan for teams. It gives organizations a shared workspace with centralized billing, admin controls, and Standard or Premium seats that both include access to ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex. Learn more in What is ChatGPT Business.

How do I sign up for ChatGPT Business?

You can create a Business workspace from your ChatGPT account. Review What is ChatGPT Business for plan basics, then read Sign up for ChatGPT Business.

How does pricing work for ChatGPT Business?

Standard ChatGPT seats cost $25 per user per month on monthly billing or $20 per user per month when billed annually. Premium ChatGPT seats cost $125 per user per month on monthly billing or $100 per user per month when billed annually. Prices listed here are in USD and may vary by country and currency. A workspace requires at least two paid seats, which can be any combination of Standard and Premium seats. Read more in Managing billing and seats in ChatGPT Business.

Is ChatGPT Business the same as ChatGPT Team?

Yes. ChatGPT Team was renamed to ChatGPT Business on Aug 29, 2025. The rename itself did not change the plan, but later pricing and seat options can still change over time.

Does ChatGPT Business still require 2 seats?

Yes, and this can be a combination of Standard and Premium seats (for example, 1 Standard and 1 Premium will meet the 2-seat minimum requirement).

Seats, billing, and limits

Can a ChatGPT Business workspace mix paid ChatGPT seat types?

Yes. A workspace can include Standard ChatGPT seats, Premium ChatGPT seats, or a combination of both under one subscription.

Who can buy or change paid ChatGPT seat types?

Only workspace owners can purchase, add, reduce, assign, reassign, or change Standard and Premium seat types. Admins can manage invitations and other routine member settings.

When are paid seat changes charged?

Adding paid seats triggers an immediate prorated charge for the remainder of the current billing cycle. Seat reductions take effect at the start of the next billing cycle. Assigning, reassigning, or swapping already-paid seats does not add a charge.

What limits apply to each paid seat type?

Standard and Premium seats both include access to ChatGPT and Codex. Premium seats include 5x more usage than Standard seats and are not subject to a five-hour usage limit. Eligible usage beyond included limits can draw from workspace credits when flexible pricing and spend controls permit it.

Can Premium’s included usage be converted to a fixed number of credits or dollars?

There is no single credit or dollar equivalent for Premium’s included usage because consumption depends on the model and task. Included usage is separate from the workspace credit pool. Eligible activity can use that pool after included usage is exhausted, subject to workspace settings and spending limits. For details, see:Business credit usage and spending controls.

Does zero workspace credit usage mean no one has used ChatGPT or Codex?

Not necessarily. Standard and Premium seats use their included allowance before eligible activity draws from workspace credits. A workspace credit-usage value is therefore not a measure of all activity. If the displayed credit usage does not match what you expect, check that you are viewing the correct workspace and contact OpenAI Support for help reviewing the discrepancy.

Is there an upper limit on the number of paid seats in my subscription?

Starting on Aug 24, 2026, the maximum is 200 paid Standard and Premium seats total per ChatGPT Business subscription. Our support team is unable to change your maximum seat limit. If you need a larger number of seats, consider ChatGPT Enterprise. Workspaces created before that date retain their previous seat limit.
The limit includes purchased Standard and Premium seats, including unassigned seats. Invitations do not reserve a seat. At the limit, requests or upgrades that require an additional paid seat cannot be completed until capacity becomes available.

Are paid seat changes refundable?

Unused ChatGPT seats are non-refundable once the workspace has committed to the seat count for that billing cycle. Owners can schedule seat reductions for the next billing cycle.

What is the difference between Standard and Premium ChatGPT seats?

Both seat types include access to ChatGPT and Codex. Premium seats provide higher usage limits, and a workspace can mix Standard and Premium seats under one subscription.

When will I see new pricing changes take effect?

Purchasing a paid seat takes effect immediately and is charged on a prorated basis. Seat reductions and scheduled downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.

Can I reduce the number of ChatGPT seats on my plan?

Yes. Owners can reduce paid ChatGPT seats for future invoices; changes are scheduled to take effect at the start of the next billing cycle.

Codex, privacy, and related plans

Can I add legacy Codex seats to a new ChatGPT Business workspace?

Starting June 24, 2026, new self-serve ChatGPT Business workspaces cannot add Codex seats, which are a legacy seat type. A Business workspace that added a legacy Codex seat before June 24, 2026, can continue to manage and add that legacy seat type. Standard and Premium ChatGPT seats both already include access to Codex. Legacy Codex seats cannot be swapped with Standard or Premium seats. Read more: Managing legacy Codex seats.

What are the privacy terms for ChatGPT Business, and is my workspace data used to train models?

ChatGPT Business is governed by OpenAI Business Terms and the Enterprise Privacy commitments, and OpenAI does not train on your workspace data. Read more in Privacy, terms, and data handling.

Can I use the ChatGPT API with my ChatGPT Business plan?

No. ChatGPT Business and the API platform are billed separately. A Business subscription does not include API usage. Read more in ChatGPT Business compared with other plans.

Can API credits or API rate limits transfer to ChatGPT Business?

No. API Platform credits and API rate limits do not transfer to a ChatGPT Business workspace. ChatGPT Business subscriptions and workspace credits are separate from API Platform billing and usage limits.

What's the difference between ChatGPT Business and ChatGPT Enterprise?

ChatGPT Business is a self-serve workspace plan for teams. If you need a larger deployment or contracted enterprise controls, review What is ChatGPT Enterprise. Also read ChatGPT Business compared with other plans.

Can I use ChatGPT Business on my phone?

Yes. ChatGPT Business is available on iPhone and Android. Read more in Managing members, seat types, and roles in ChatGPT Business.

Workspace access and membership

What is a workspace, and how do I access my ChatGPT Business workspace?

A workspace is a distinct ChatGPT environment with its own settings, members, and resources. On web, use the profile menu to switch workspaces; on mobile, use the sidebar. Read more in Managing members, seat types, and roles in ChatGPT Business.

How do I switch between my personal workspace and my ChatGPT Business workspace?

Use the workspace switcher in ChatGPT to choose which workspace is active for the session. Keep in mind that merged personal data is only available in the Business workspace after migration. Read more in Keep or merge a personal workspace.

Why don’t I see Premium access after a seat purchase?

Check that you are signed in to the intended account and have selected the Business workspace where the Premium seat was purchased. Workspaces with the same display name can still be separate workspaces. Ask a workspace owner to confirm your assigned Seat type; purchasing Premium capacity does not automatically assign it to every member. For assignment steps, see:managing member seat types.

What account types or roles are available in a ChatGPT Business workspace?

Business workspaces support owners, admins, analytics viewers, and members. Each user can be assigned a Standard or Premium ChatGPT seat, and both seat types include access to ChatGPT and Codex. Read more in Managing ChatGPT Business Workspaces.

Who can join my workspace?

Invited teammates can join when an available paid seat matches the requested seat type. Otherwise, they can request access until a workspace owner makes a seat available. Owners and admins can manage invitations; only workspace owners can approve requests that require a paid seat purchase or change. Read more in Managing ChatGPT Business memberships.

Can I restrict members from adding additional members?

Members can invite other members using the default seat type; currently, it is not possible to restrict members from adding additional members if the workspace has available seats. Admins and owners can manage pending invites from Workspace settings > Members. Read more in Managing ChatGPT Business memberships.

How many paid seats can a workspace have?

A ChatGPT Business subscription can include up to 200 paid Standard and Premium seats combined. At least two paid seats are required; one Standard seat and one Premium seat satisfy this minimum. If you are considering a ChatGPT Business workspace requiring more than 200 paid seats, consider ChatGPT Enterprise. Note: workspaces created before Aug 24, 2026 retain their previous seat limit.

Seat management and refunds

How do I add or remove seats in a ChatGPT Business workspace?

Only workspace owners can add, assign, reassign, or reduce Standard and Premium seats from workspace settings. Added seats are charged immediately on a prorated basis. Removing a member frees the seat for reassignment but does not reduce the paid seat count; schedule a seat reduction for the start of the next billing cycle. Read more in Managing billing and seats in ChatGPT Business.

Can I request a refund for an unused ChatGPT seat?

No. Unused ChatGPT seats are non-refundable once the workspace has committed to the seat count for that billing cycle.

Workspace migration, deactivation, and data

Can I create a new ChatGPT Business account after deleting my previous one?

Yes. After 30 days, you can create a new account with the same email if the prior account was fully deleted and not merely deactivated. Deleted accounts cannot be reactivated.

Can I migrate or merge my personal ChatGPT workspace into my ChatGPT Business workspace?

Yes, you can choose to keep your personal workspace separate or merge it into Business when joining. If you merge, the personal workspace is deleted after migration and the merge cannot be undone. Read more in Keep or merge a personal workspace.

How do I move from a personal Pro plan to a Business Premium seat?

Create or join a ChatGPT Business workspace, then have a workspace owner assign you a Premium seat. Premium is a Business seat type, not a rename of your personal Pro subscription. You can keep your personal workspace separate or choose to merge it into Business. Merging is permanent, and personal-subscription handling depends on whether you merge and where you subscribed. Before deciding, see:personal-to-Business migration options.

Can I move a Business workspace to a different owner email?

Changing your sign-in email, changing a workspace owner, and creating a new workspace are different actions. For an email change, follow the options and eligibility requirements inchanging your account email. To change who manages the same workspace, an existing owner can invite the other account and assign the owner role; see:managing workspace owners. Creating a new account or Business workspace does not transfer the existing workspace’s subscription, membership, or data.

Can I merge one ChatGPT Business workspace into another?

No. Business-to-Business workspace merges are not supported. A new Business workspace starts as a separate workspace and does not inherit the old workspace's members, settings, billing subscription, or data. Read more in Migrating Business workspace to other plans.

How do I leave a ChatGPT Business workspace?

Go to the Business workspace, open Workspace settings > Members, use the options menu next to your own name, and choose Leave workspace. If the workspace is deactivated, use the options menu from the greyed-out workspace in the profile picker. Read more in Leave a workspace.

Can I export my data before I leave a workspace?

No. Data export is not available in a ChatGPT Business workspace.

What happens if my ChatGPT Business workspace is deactivated?

Workspace data remains intact but users lose access, and only owners can reactivate the workspace. Users with a separate Personal workspace can keep using it; users without one are prompted to create a new Personal workspace. Read more in Workspace deactivation.

Why can't I see all member chats in my Business workspace?

Each member has their own chat and Codex history and can choose what to share. By default, admins and owners cannot see all private member chats. Read more in Managing data, sharing, and privacy in ChatGPT Business.
