You will get an error when trying to sign up for / log into a deleted account
If you get this error when you try to login or create an account it means the account associated with the email address you're trying to use to sign up for / login to an account underwent an account deletion:
This will happen either because you deleted your account in ChatGPT -- or -- you deleted your account by submitting the email to our Privacy Center for deletion.
⚠️ If you previously deleted an OpenAI account, we unfortunately don't support creating a new account with the same email or reactivating the old account.
Deleting your account yourself in ChatGPT or our Privacy Center should include canceling any active Plus subscription. Also deactivated/deleted accounts are not recoverable.
Next steps
Wait 30 Days: After deleting your account, wait at least 30 days to ensure your email address is removed from OpenAI's systems.
Sign Up Again: Once the 30-day period has passed, visit chat.openai.com or platform.openai.com to create a new account using your previous email address.
Alternative Email Options: If you prefer not to wait 30 days, you can sign up immediately using a different email address or an email sub-address (e.g.,
jane+new@example.com). Most email providers treat sub-addresses as aliases, delivering messages to your main inbox.
